REALLY?
So on Saturday, I was sponsored by Anna Louise, owner of the Bongiovi Funeral Home in Raritan. Anna Louise is a great proponent and supporter of literacy, especially among children. She bought 300 HUNDRED of my middle grade books, Evolution Revolution: Simple Machines so that I could give them away. I spent seven hours, as pictured above.
Only a total of 93 were taken.
WHY??
I do NOT understand why parents walked by and refused.
1. This is a FREE BOOK.
2. It is based on the 3rd & 4th grade SCIENCE curriculum.
3. Your kids MUST READ A BOOK OVER THE SUMMER.
4. This story has animals, adventure, and a few pictures to break up the text.
Oh, DON’T Tell Me That!
On youngster told me, “I hate books!” This broke my heart. Without reading and books, that child is already reducing the number of opportunities for building his future. And really, WHY would his parents be so blase about that? No encouragement, like: we can read it together, let’s check it out, I’d like to see what happens, etc. If parents don’t encourage children to read while the kids are young and build a love of reading, I fear for the future.
Thanks to Anna Louise at the Bongiovi Funeral Home for caring about kids, reading, supporting local authors, and her community. The rest of the books will go to local libraries and schools.
Pardon me while I weep.
