You listen!

Sitting in airports is not only tedious, frustrating, and a waste of precious life minutes, but it can be terribly BORING. I was traveling to Ecuador for my son’s wedding, which required 3 separate flights. I brought a thick book. But being an avid and fast reader, I went through the book before the return flights and therefore, had nothing to do. (It is impossible to find a book in English in Ecuador, not being the native language.)

Giving In

Because I faced huge blocks of empty time, I joined the rest of humanity, staring mindlessly at their cell phones. I played solitaire, did a Sudoku-type puzzle (Woodoku, kind of like Tetris), and if I had internet, read Instagram. After I lost interest in those, I scrolled through news and gossip feeds. Okay, I admit it, I like to read the “Would I be an asshole if…” stories. I find them weirdly entertaining when people ask strangers if they acted unwisely or cruelly for doing such things as dropping out as maid of honor for a horrific bridezilla, or cutting off toxic relatives. So many of them are self-evident, but hey, everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame.

Striking Gold!

I read a story about a college dating event, and like Bill Murray says in Scrooged when he thinks it’s a brilliant idea to shoot a ghost, Bingo! Bango! I had an idea for a new adult book, centered around awkward college dating. I scribbled down some notes and possible titles, and even started a rough basic outline. I’m so excited for this new idea, but alas, it will have to wait until other projects are submitted or revised.

Stop, Look, and Write It Down!

There have been many times when ideas have come to me, and I thought, “Oooh, I’ll have to write that down later…” and by that time, I’ve forgotten what the idea was. Don’t be that dummy. It doesn’t matter what you do, if you get a brilliant idea, write it down! On your cell! In a notebook! (I’ve written down ideas on the bottom of a pair of heels, you know, that space between the heel and the front of the shoe? because I only had a pen. Yep.)

Muses are a gift and are to be revered!

Wait, you want a tease about it, right? A twist on the Cinderella story. Not much of a hint especially since so many stories have been based on that, but sorry, that’s all I’m willing to give. So keep checking back…
